The idea for Lights Out Canada originated with Keleigh Annau in 2005 while she was attending the Youth Climate Change Conference in Victoria, BC at the age of sixteen. When she returned home, she presented the concept to her friends, Francesca Champagne-Holland, Rebecca Walker, and Kristine Rowswell, who helped organize the first annual Lights Out Canada. When Keleigh left Vancouver Island to study at the United World College of the Adriatic in Trieste, Italy, she decided to expand Lights Out beyond Canada's borders because climate change is affecting, and will continue to affect everyone, no matter whom we are or where we live. Along with a network of peers from around the world, the Lights Out Team expanded Lights Out internationally. To date, over 100 000 students, in 10 countries, have participated in Lights Out World.
Lights Out World has a group of international representatives who have been instrumental in translating our materials and contacting schools in their home countries. International Reps: Kaisa Hartikainen (Finland) Natasha Su Sivarajah (Malaysia) Valeria Pintus (Italy) Rodrigo Calcagni (Chile) | ||
